Islamabad: The Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, at Parliament House, engaging in a detailed discussion on regional stability and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
Mr. Gilani emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to its relationship with Iran, commending the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel. He acknowledged Iran’s leadership and armed forces for their efforts in preventing further escalation.
He expressed condolences for the loss of Iranian lives, including senior military officers and nuclear scientists, during the conflict with Israel. Pakistan reiterated its support for Iran’s sovereignty and self-defense as outlined in the UN Charter.
Mr. Gilani noted that Pakistan’s Prime Minister had communicated with Iranian leadership multiple times since mid-June, condemning Israeli aggression and expressing solidarity with Iran. Pakistan’s leadership and Parliament have issued strong statements against Israel’s actions.
Mr. Gilani highlighted Pakistan’s support for the joint statement by the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Conference and several Arab and African countries against Israeli aggression. He expressed the need for enhanced defense cooperation and economic ties with Iran.
The Chairman Senate conveyed best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader and its people, recalling his productive visits to Iran in the past. He noted recent discussions with Iranian leadership in international forums, where both sides supported each other’s positions.
Mr. Gilani condemned Israeli actions as contrary to the UN Charter and informed that the Senate of Pakistan passed a resolution against the aggression. He also mentioned Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during the Pakistan-India standoff, emphasizing the importance of unity within the Muslim Ummah.
The ambassador briefed Mr. Gilani on the Iran-Israel situation and expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during the crisis.
