Baku: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, met with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, in Baku. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the International Parliamentary Conference marking the 30th Anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Constitution.
During the meeting, Gilani extended greetings to the Azerbaijani leadership and emphasized the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. He highlighted the shared mission of peace and prosperity for both nations, which are united by historical and cultural ties.
Gilani expressed his pleasure at meeting Gafarova again, recalling their recent interaction in Islamabad. He noted the successful Trilateral Conference among Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, viewing it as a milestone in regional parliamentary cooperation.
He reflected on the historical connections between the countries, mentioning the Multani Caravanserai in Baku as a symbol of deep ties. Gilani extended an invitation to Gafarova to visit Multan, emphasizing his own roots in the city.
Gilani recalled his 2012 meeting with President Ilham Aliyev in Davos, where discussions on energy and infrastructure cooperation took place. He observed that these engagements continue to guide the relationship between the nations.
Gilani congratulated Azerbaijan on its recent peace efforts with Armenia and invited Azerbaijani leaders to the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad, scheduled for November 2025. He emphasized the conference’s role in promoting regional peace and cooperation.
The Chairman also highlighted Pakistan’s active engagement with Azerbaijan through multilateral forums, congratulating Azerbaijan on its re-election within the NAM’s parliamentary structure.
Gafarova expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended during her visit to Pakistan and thanked Gilani for attending Azerbaijan’s constitutional celebrations. She briefed him on peace efforts with Armenia and stressed the need for further inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to enhancing collaboration through parliamentary exchanges and joint initiatives. The discussions reflected the enduring partnership and shared vision between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
