Morocco: Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, met with Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council of Qatar, Dr. Hamda Bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, to discuss mutual interests and bolster ties between the two nations. The meeting focused on enhancing parliamentary engagement, investment, culture, trade, and peace in the Middle East.
Chairman Gilani emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s relationship with Qatar, noting the deep-rooted religious, cultural, and historical connections between the countries. He highlighted the significance of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s previous visit to Doha, which opened new avenues for cooperation.
The Chairman also mentioned the upcoming visit of the Amir of Qatar to Pakistan as an opportunity to elevate bilateral relations. He stressed the need for regular institutional engagements and the signing of additional Memorandums of Understanding to strengthen parliamentary relations.
Gilani praised the increase in Pakistan’s IT exports to Qatar and the establishment of direct shipping lines between Karachi and Hamad Port as positive steps in economic cooperation. He commended Qatar’s mediation efforts in the Middle East and acknowledged the vital role of the Pakistani diaspora in Qatar.
Deputy Speaker Al-Sulaiti expressed Qatar’s appreciation for its relationship with Pakistan, emphasizing shared religious and cultural bonds. She acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in regional peace and the fight against terrorism, and she underscored the importance of enhancing parliamentary and people-to-people contacts.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to continue fostering strong bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors.
