Gang Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl Heightens Concerns Over Women’s Safety in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: A recent gang rape of a 13-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh has escalated concerns about the safety of women in the region. The incident, which occurred in Mathura, involved three individuals who allegedly intoxicated the girl and committed the rape in a moving car. This event is part of a disturbing pattern of violence against women that has been reported across the country.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the perpetrators, described as Hindu youths, lured the young Dalit girl with an intoxicating drink, drove her to a secluded area, and then raped her before fleeing the scene. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment, and although a police case has been filed, no arrests have been confirmed.

This incident underscores a broader crisis within the nation regarding the safety of women. It follows another recent case in Kolkata, where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered at her hospital workplace, leading to nationwide protests by medical professionals. The ongoing violence has sparked outrage and a heightened sense of vulnerability among women across India.

The national capital, Delhi, has been frequently labeled as a particularly dangerous area for women, reinforcing India’s grim reputation regarding gender safety. The repeated instances of violence and the slow pace of justice in such cases continue to challenge the country’s law enforcement and judicial systems.
