Jodhpur, In a harrowing revelation, a case of gang-rape has been registered against the chairperson of the Sirohi Municipal Council, Mahendra Mevada, and the former municipal council Commissioner, Mahendra Choudhary, in Rajasthan. The accusations involve the sexual assault of nearly 20 women, purportedly offered employment opportunities as the premise for the crime.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the grave incident was brought to light by a woman from Pali district who reported to the police that she and around 20 other women were lured by the accused with the promise of jobs. These assaults reportedly occurred under the guise of employment in the Anganwadi sector within the state.
The complainant detailed a chilling account of how the accused not only perpetrated the sexual assaults but also filmed them, later using the footage to blackmail the victims for money, with each being demanded to pay Rs five lakh. The victims, seeking employment, were reportedly taken to Sirohi months prior, where they were provided accommodation and meals by the accused. Unbeknownst to them, the food was alleged to have been laced with sedatives, facilitating the assaults.
Upon confrontation after regaining consciousness, the accused purportedly confessed to the deceit, admitting to exploiting the women for sexual gratification under false pretenses. The ordeal culminated in the Rajasthan High Court ordering the registration of a case following a petition filed by eight of the women involved.
This case has ignited a firestorm of outrage, underscoring the vulnerabilities faced by women seeking employment and the exploitation of power by individuals in positions of authority. The legal proceedings are closely watched as a test of the justice system’s ability to address such severe allegations of abuse and misconduct.
