G-20 summit in IIOJK an attempt to deflect world attention from real issue, Shah tells UN, OIC

Srinagar, March 13, 2023 (PPI-OT): Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party President and senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah has said that the Indian bid to host the G-20 summit in Srinagar is an attempt to deflect world attention from the real issue of Kashmir. Shabbir Ahmad Shah, who is languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar jail, said this in a letter addressed to the UN and OIC Secretary Generals.

The APHC leader while referring to India’s ill intentions behind the controversial move said the Modi regime’s plan to hold the summit in the disputed territory is a part of its disinformation campaign aimed at creating a smokescreen to hide ground realities in Kashmir and hoodwink the international community. He said that since 5th August 2019, India has been shamelessly promoting the so-called normalcy mantra in the occupied territory. Shah said that present-day India in brazen violation of the UNSC resolutions had unilaterally and unlawfully changed the special status of Kashmir in 2019, and the New Delhi’s motive behind arranging a meeting of the members of the G-20 in Srinagar is meant to keep the facade of normalcy alive.

The incarcerated DFP chief asked UN and OIC to prevent India from going ahead with the proposed meeting in Srinagar, as it would amount to legitimizing India’s illegal occupation of the internationally-recognised disputed territory, which will itself dent the credibility of the two world forums. Shabbir Ahmad Shah hoped that the UN and OIC play its pivotal role in seeking the settlement of the Kashmir dispute to ensure durable peace and stability in South Asia.
