According to Kashmir Media Service, the funeral saw significant attendance from the Kashmiri and Pakistani communities residing in the UK. Among the notable participants was Kashmiri leader Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo. Prof Shawl, a revered Hurriyat leader, poet, writer, journalist, columnist, and educationist, passed away yesterday in a London hospital following a brief illness.
In his final days, Prof Shawl remained committed to the Kashmiri cause, evident in a special message he conveyed from his hospital bed. He urged the Kashmiri people to unite under the common goal of the right to self-determination. In his poignant message, Prof Shawl expressed gratitude for the life he led, witnessing and addressing the sufferings of his people. He stressed the importance of accepting the decisions of Allah Almighty and sought forgiveness and mercy. His words reflected a deep concern for his family, especially his spouse Shamim Shawl, who was by his side during his illness, and his hopes for his children and others to live in love and peace.
