Fundraising should be done in schools, colleges and universities to help the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria: Prime Minister 

Islamabad, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):A high-level committee has been established to organize relief operations for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. Under the chairmanship of Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Railway and Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Information and Broadcasting Minister Maryam Aurangzeb will be members of the committee.

Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Religious Affairs Minister Mufti Abdul Shakoor, Chairman NDMA, Pakistan’s Ambassador and Special Assistant to Turkey and Syria Tariq Fatemi will also be members of the committee. The daily meeting of the committee will ensure the delivery of relief goods to Turkey and Syria on a priority basis. Prime Minister

A review meeting was held today on relief activities for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkey briefed the meeting about the disaster data from the earthquake. Appreciating their role in relief efforts, the Prime Minister directed them to further strengthen the ties between the Turkish government and Pakistani institutions.

The meeting was told that not only the aid supplies and rescue teams from Pakistan have reached Turkey and Syria at this time and are helping in the relief operations, while PIA continues to deliver goods from Lahore and Islamabad to Turkey and Syria making sure. Moreover, in the next few days, convoys of trucks will leave for Turkey and Syria with relief goods from Iran.

The meeting was further informed that a nationwide awareness campaign is going on to help the earthquake victims. Relief funds can be deposited in the account number G-12166 of the Prime Minister’s Fund for Earthquake Victims, while donations of other relief goods can be deposited at any collection center of NDMA.

In this regard, NDMA has established 13 collection centers across the country, while these collection centers are being extended in every district on the instructions of the Prime Minister. The relief items required include tents, warm clothes, blankets, socks, prepared food for children, etc. in accordance with the cold weather.

The meeting was also apprised of the rescue teams sent by Pakistan, the relief supplies and the current performance of the 30-bed hospital. Pakistan is sending one more mobile hospital to Turkey and Syria to treat the injured. The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Maryam Aurangzeb, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, Chairman NDMA, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey.
