Tripoli: Pakistan’s mission in Tripoli, Libya, has confirmed the deaths of four Pakistani nationals following the sinking of a vessel near the Harawa coast in eastern Libya. The tragic incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting perilous journeys by sea.

The mission’s team visited Sirte City, where they verified the recovery of 11 bodies of migrants. Among these, four were identified as Pakistanis through their documents. The identified individuals include Zahid Mehmood, son of Liaqat Ali, from Gujranwala; Sameer Ali, son of Raja Abdul Qadeer; Syed Ali Hussain, son of Shafqat ul Hussnain; and Asif Ali, son of Nazar Muhammad, from Mandi Bahauddin.

Two bodies remain unidentified, adding to the challenges faced by authorities in accounting for all the victims of the disaster. The Embassy in Tripoli is actively working to gather more information about the affected Pakistani nationals and is maintaining contact with local authorities to facilitate the identification process.

In response to the incident, the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been activated to monitor the situation closely. The unit’s involvement underscores the gravity of the situation and the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of Pakistani nationals abroad.
