Lahore: Former Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Yastur-ul-Haq Malik, was laid to rest in Lahore, with a large turnout of retired and serving armed services officials and civilians attending his funeral. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, offered condolences to the family and prayed for the Admiral’s soul.
According to Pakistan Navy, Admiral Yastur-ul-Haq Malik’s naval career extended over four decades, marked by his participation in the 1965 and 1971 Pakistan-India wars. He was Chief of the Naval Staff from 1988 to 1991. His career was noted for leadership, moral character, professional competence, and responsibility.
Admiral Malik joined the Pakistan Navy in September 1951, receiving initial training at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK, and graduating from PAF Staff College and National Defence University. His command and staff assignments included commanding the Pakistan Navy Fleet and serving as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and Chairman of the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation.
In recognition of his service, Admiral Malik received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-e-Basalat. Floral wreaths from the President, Prime Minister, military chiefs, and civilians were placed on his grave.
