Former IIOJK Governor Slams CBI Raid, Alleges Intimidation

New Delhi, Satya Pal Malik, the former governor of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has publicly decried a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raid on his residence, framing the action as an attempt at intimidation. Malik’s outspoken criticisms of corruption and his refusal to be silenced by such tactics have spotlighted the tension between the former official and current government agencies.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Malik expressed his disdain for the raid through posts on X, attributing the CBI’s actions to retaliation for his complaints against individuals involved in corruption. He asserted his resilience against these intimidation attempts, stating, “The dictator is trying to scare me by misusing government agencies.” Despite recent health issues and hospitalization, Malik reported that the raids extended beyond his own home to include those of his driver and assistant, further alleging harassment directed by higher powers.

This confrontation follows a series of investigations by the CBI involving around 100 officials and encompassing 29 premises across various Indian cities, related to the Kiru Hydropower project on the Chenab River in the Doda district of IIOJK. Malik, who served as the governor of IIOJK from August 23, 2018, to October 30, 2019, has been a vocal critic of the Modi administration, previously claiming offers of bribes for project approvals and voicing concerns over policies including the controversial abrogation of Article 370.

The incident has caught the attention of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who criticized the Modi government’s response to Malik’s allegations, questioning the democratic integrity of such actions against a former governor who dared to speak out.

Malik’s stand against corruption and his subsequent treatment by government agencies underscore the ongoing debates over governance, transparency, and the use of power within India’s political landscape.
