Former Australian Senator seeks global solidarity with Kashmiri people

Islamabad, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): Renowned Australian politician Lee Rhiannon while expressing solidarity with the Kashmiri people on October 27, today, which is being observed as Black Day by Kashmiris in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the world urged the international community to globally remember those were killed and suffered at the hands of Indian occupation forces in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Lee Rhiannon, who was a Senator for New South Wales between July 2011 and August 2018, in a video message on the day said, “We must remember those who died and those who suffered, it is the responsibility of the international community to stand with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

On this day on October 27, 75 years ago, she added, India landed its troops and established settler colonial rule effectively denying the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. “Innocent Kashmiris were killed, properties destroyed and ugly atrocities were committed. We also noted that this barbarity perpetrated by Indian military forces has significantly increased since August 5, 2019, when the Modi regime suspended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was previously recognized under Indian constitution.”

“On this day, we need to ignite the global solidarity with Jammu and Kashmir. I believe that more people are learning about the plight of Kashmiris and that is the plus (point).” She added that more human rights abuses are on the rise in Jammu and Kashmir because of the presence of over nine hundred thousand Indian troops in the region. “The Modi regime has effectively been propped up by the western powers willing to ignore blatant crimes in order to secure Indian support in their confrontation against China.”

She disclosed that “there are worrying reports that the US government is in talks with the Modi government to secure land in Ladakh where they could set up military power base to target China.” The former Australian Senator warned this would lead to suffer the local people as the war would engulf the region.” October 27, she said, is Kashmir Black Day to reiterate “our commitment to stand with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to step up international solidarity” to raise mass movement for just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
