Forest Fires Ravage Kathua and Rajouri Districts in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, Significant forest areas in the Kathua and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir are currently battling extensive fires, which have caused considerable damage to the region’s forest wealth. The fires, intensified by strong winds and rising temperatures, have prompted ongoing efforts from local authorities to control the blaze.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the fire in Kathua began in the Dhara Dogano area of the Basholi belt and rapidly spread to nearby regions. It was reportedly brought under control after several hours of firefighting efforts today. Meanwhile, in Rajouri, the blaze started in the Sawni Sassalkote area and expanded to adjacent areas, with firefighting efforts still underway.

Officials noted that some parts of Rajouri have been facing recurrent forest fires over the past three days, with continuous efforts to contain them. Despite the extensive damage to forest areas, there have been no human casualties reported. The fire service department indicated that there are currently 10 to 13 fire incidents occurring daily across the region, a situation exacerbated by the current heatwave.
