Islamabad, 17 Oct 2023:Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jillani is currently in Jeddah, attending the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Executive Committee, addressing the Gaza crisis and the alarming humanitarian state of its besieged civilians. This significant meeting, focusing on international concerns, is jointly initiated by Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Ahead of this session, Minister Jillani has been proactive, engaging in discussions with fellow OIC country Foreign Ministers, including those from Egypt, Iran, Turkiye, and the UAE. Through these dialogues, he voiced Pakistan’s serious apprehensions regarding the devastating impact of Israeli bombardments on Gaza. Jillani is expected to further these conversations through face-to-face meetings while in Jeddah.
For the forthcoming Executive Committee session, the Foreign Minister emphasized Pakistan’s advocacy for the OIC’s unanimous call for an immediate ceasefire. Additionally, he stressed the urgent need for humanitarian corridors, ensuring the prompt delivery of essential supplies, including food, water, and medicine, to the distressed citizens of Gaza. Future endeavours, as Jillani suggested, should focus on devising a lasting, fair resolution to the Palestinian issue, grounded in international law and in harmony with pertinent resolutions from the United Nations and OIC. He reiterated the vision of a self-reliant, continuous State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif serving as its capital.
