Islamabad, July 14, 2021 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has called for consistent support to the Afghan peace process as a shared responsibility. He expressed these views in his separate meetings with his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov, and Kazakh counterpart Mukhtar Tileuberdi, on the sidelines of SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Dushanbe.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the situation in Afghanistan is critical and it is extremely important to avoid another cycle of civil war which would impact the region negatively. He expressed the hope that Afghan leaders, recognising the importance of international support for the Afghan peace process, would achieve a negotiated political settlement.
During the meetings, Shah Mahmood Qureshi also highlighted the importance of working together on regional connectivity projects which would give a boost to bilateral as well as regional trade. He briefed his both counterparts on Pakistan’s focus from geo-strategic to geo-economic approach which will greatly benefit the region.
