Islamabad, May 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has stressed for resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people. During a meeting with President of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid, in New York, he underlined that durable peace between Pakistan and India will only be possible if the lingering dispute is resolved. The Foreign Minister called for the reversal of the illegal and unilateral steps taken by India in Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir since 5 August 2019.
The Foreign Minister briefed the President of UN General Assembly on the illegal ‘delimitation’ exercise in IIOJK aimed at altering the demographic composition of the occupied territory in complete violation of international law including the 4th Geneva Convention and the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
The Foreign Minister appreciated the recognition of 15th March as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia by the UN General Assembly, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to work closely with the President of General Assembly in evolving an agreed plan of action to combat Islamophobia. Emphasizing the importance of the UN Security Council reform process, the Foreign Minister stressed that any decision on the issue needs to be reached with consensus of UN member states.
