Food Safety Raids in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Reveal Health Violations in Hospital Canteen and Fake Milk Production

Peshawar, The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority conducted multiple operations, including a significant raid at the Khyber Teaching Hospital’s doctors’ hostel canteen, following complaints about health and safety violations.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Food Safety Team in Peshawar responded to grievances by doctors at the hospital, discovering stale meat and inadequate sanitary conditions in the canteen. Red bags filled with refuse were found improperly stored, and the canteen’s workers were operating without the required medical certificates. Following the inspection, the canteen was sealed and a substantial fine was imposed for these infractions.

In a related enforcement action, the Food Safety Team in Swat, collaborating with the sub-district administration, shut down a fake milk factory. The operation led to the seizure of all goods and the registration of a case against the factory’s owner for producing counterfeit milk products.

Director General of the Food Authority, Wasif Saeed, has issued directives for hospital administration to take disciplinary actions against the contractor responsible for the canteen, emphasizing that such health hazards are intolerable. Additionally, Provincial Food Minister Zahir Shah Toro urged the Food Safety Authority to maintain regular inspections of hospital facilities to ensure compliance with health regulations.
