Islamabad, Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani has called for more effective international cooperation to establish regulatory structures to combat migrant smuggling while promoting legal human mobility channels.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Jilani expressed these views at the International Conference on Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling in Brussels. During his two-day visit to Belgium, he stressed the necessity of legal migration pathways to reduce irregular migration and smuggling. He also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to control irregular migration.
Jilani’s visit included meetings with key European Union officials and European Parliament members. Discussions with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson focused on the Migration and Mobility Dialogue and the Talent Partnership. Meetings with Vice President of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala, Chairperson of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs David Macalister, and EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpalinen were also held, covering topics like the GSP Plus Scheme and regional issues in the Middle East and South Asia, including the situation in Indian illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
