Lahore: Relief operations are underway in Punjab following severe flooding that has led to the evacuation of thousands. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, more than 3,000 people have been evacuated from areas along the Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, Jhelum, and Sindh rivers. Additionally, over 45,000 individuals have been moved from various low-lying regions in the province.
The flooding has heavily impacted the districts of Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Okara, and Pakpattan. Rescue operations have been extensive, with 669 boats and 2,861 rescuers working to transport more than 9,500 people from 30 districts.
In recent operations, 816 individuals were evacuated from the Kala Shedian area of Mandi Bahauddin, and 625 from Pindi Bhatian tehsil of Hafizabad in the past 24 hours.
Efforts in Nankana Sahib have resulted in the relocation of 1,553 individuals stranded by floodwaters. The operation included the evacuation of 568 women and 318 children. Livestock has also been a priority, with 2,392 animals moved to safety.
The ongoing operations in Nankana Sahib involve 14 boats, 93 rescue workers, and 122 volunteers. Relief measures include the provision of medical care and food supplies for affected residents.
The Chief Minister has directed the establishment of seven relief and shelter camps to support the flood victims, ensuring adequate facilities for those displaced by the flooding.
