Flash Flood Warning Issued for River Ravi and Chenab Catchments, Hill Torrents in DG Khan and Rajanpur

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flash flood alert for the next 48 hours, predicting medium level increases in water flows in the River Ravi nullahs and River Chenab catchments. Additionally, low to medium flows are expected in the hill torrents of the DG Khan and Rajanpur regions until July 15, 2024.

According to Press Information Department, the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center has highlighted potential impacts, including disruptions to transportation and damage to buildings, infrastructure, crops, and livestock in the affected areas. The increased flow could significantly affect low-lying areas, prompting NDMA to advise Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and local administrations to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautionary measures to protect at-risk populations.

Residents in these regions are urged to maintain household drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and report any blockages or potential hazards to local authorities promptly. The public is also advised to exercise caution while traveling to landslide-prone areas and to follow all safety instructions issued by local authorities. For timely disaster alerts and guidelines, NDMA recommends downloading its ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app.
