Five Researchers Honored with L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science


Paris, Five distinguished researchers from across the globe were celebrated at the 26th L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards for their groundbreaking contributions in fields ranging from immunology to molecular biology.



According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the awards recognized women from five broad regions for their achievements. Professor Rose Leke from Cameroon was acknowledged for her work in immunology, specifically for improving outcomes in pregnancy-associated malaria and eradicating polio. Professor Alicia Kowaltowski of Brazil received recognition for her studies on mitochondria and energy metabolism. Professor Nada Jabado of Canada was honored for her discoveries in pediatric brain tumors. Professor Nieng Yan from China was awarded for her work on the structure of membrane proteins, and Professor Geneviève Almouzni of France was recognized for her contributions to our understanding of DNA packaging.
