Five BJP MLAs suspended after chaos in Bengal Assembly

Kolkata, March 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Five BJP MLAs from West Bengal, including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, were suspended by assembly Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay on Monday for their ‘unruly’ conduct in the House. The suspensions were awarded after chaos ensued in the West Bengal Assembly, following demands by the Opposition to discuss the Birbhum violence.

The Opposition demanded discussion over the law-and-order situation in the state in the wake of the Birbhum violence, in which eight people were killed. This was the last day of the Budget session. But the government apparently refused.

A ruckus erupted on the assembly floor in Kolkata over the Birbhum violence case. BJP MLA Manoj Tigga was allegedly manhandled during the incident. TMC MLA Asit Majumdar also claimed that he sustained injuries in the chaos. Five Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs – Suvendu Adhikari, Manoj Tigga, Narahari Mahato, Shankar Ghosh, Dipak Barman – were suspended for their ‘involvement’ in the ruckus inside the Bengal Assembly.
