Jammu: In a significant enforcement of India’s Official Secrets Act, one individual was arrested in Jammu for allegedly circulating sensitive security documents via WhatsApp. This case marks the first application of the law, raising concerns over freedom of information and privacy.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Jammu police station Channi Himmat acted upon intelligence that a secret document from police headquarters was being shared in a WhatsApp group managed by Tarun Behl, purportedly with the intent to spread misinformation. An FIR was registered under sections of the Official Secrets Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering abetment and public mischief, leading to the arrest and remand of Behl for four days as the investigation continues.
