Finance Minister Urges International Efforts to Boost SDG Investments Amid Debt Challenges

GENEVA, The urgent need for global collaboration to expedite investments in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was the focus of Pakistan’s Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar’s address at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, it was reported that Dr. Akhtar, speaking virtually during the conference on Development Finance for the 2030 Agenda with an emphasis on environmentally safe industrialization, stressed the importance of addressing debt difficulties in developing economies while accelerating SDG investments. She pointed out Pakistan’s ambitious commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent through its Nationally Determined Contribution plan.

Furthermore, Dr. Akhtar mentioned the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), which have both issued guidelines to foster the adoption of green industry practices, marking a significant step towards sustainable development in line with global objectives.
