Finance Minister Leads Initiative to Boost Pakistan’s Economy Through FCDO-Supported REMIT Programme

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance & Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, chaired the inaugural meeting of the steering committee for the FCDO-funded Revenue Mobilisation, Investment and Trade (REMIT) programme. British High Commissioner Jane Marriott co-chaired the event, which was attended by notable government figures including Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Dr. Jehanzeb Khan.

According to Ministry of Finance, the committee reviewed advancements in key areas such as revenue mobilisation, investment climate, macroeconomic governance, and trade. The discussions also covered critical issues like gender and climate change. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the programme’s progress and urged government stakeholders to engage more actively in its implementation. He highlighted plans for economic reforms spanning short, medium, and long-term goals aimed at revitalizing Pakistan’s economy and achieving inclusive growth.

The meeting underscored the importance of consolidating efforts and accelerating governmental actions to enhance impact. The British High Commissioner reaffirmed the FCDO’s commitment to supporting high-priority economic initiatives in Pakistan.
