Washington: In a meeting held on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb expressed his appreciation to Mr. Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), for the organization’s continued support on pivotal projects in Pakistan.
The Finance Minister highlighted the significance of Mr. Diop’s recent visit to Pakistan in March 2025 and briefed the IFC delegation about the country’s robust macroeconomic indicators. He underscored the importance of the recent sovereign credit rating upgrade by Fitch, which he described as an external validation of the government’s reform initiatives.
During the meeting, the Minister specifically acknowledged the IFC’s involvement in the Reko Diq project and urged the corporation to expedite its advisory work concerning Karachi airport.
Senator Aurangzeb also concurred with Mr. Diop on the necessity of concentrating efforts on subnational governments, emphasizing the importance of building their capacities to achieve a greater development impact.
The discussion underscored the collaborative efforts between Pakistan and the IFC, aiming to enhance economic growth and development within the region.
