Bangkok: Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue of Pakistan, engaged in discussions with Moody’s representatives during the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The talks focused on Pakistan’s economic outlook and sovereign credit profile.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions addressed the recent rating upgrade, improvements in fiscal and external indicators, and the country’s renewed access to international capital markets. The Finance Minister detailed efforts to replace expensive, short-term debt with longer-maturity financing without inflating the external debt stock.
The Pakistani delegation emphasized the increase in foreign exchange reserves, a controlled current account deficit, and the reduction of forward liabilities by the State Bank. The Finance Minister reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to structural reforms and sustainable, export-led growth beyond the current IMF program.
Additionally, Senator Aurangzeb sought insights from Moody’s on achieving a stronger credit rating and balancing political risk with economic performance in their assessments.
