Finance Minister Engages with China’s Central Bank Governor to Enhance Financial Cooperation

Washington: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a meeting with Dr. Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People’s Bank of China, to discuss financial cooperation and market access during the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings 2026.

According to Press Information Department, the Finance Minister expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support for Pakistan at the International Monetary Fund, with specific mention of backing within the IMF Executive Board. Senator Aurangzeb informed Dr. Pan of Pakistan’s recent conclusion of a Staff-Level Agreement with the IMF for the third review under the Extended Fund Facility and the second review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, anticipating approval from the IMF Executive Board soon.

The minister also updated Dr. Pan on Pakistan’s plans for its first Panda bond issuance, seeking expedited approval from the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors. Additionally, he informed the PBOC Governor about Pakistan meeting its Eurobond repayment obligations and receiving financial support from Saudi Arabia.

Senator Aurangzeb addressed the economic impact of regional conflicts, reporting that the Government has implemented targeted subsidies and demand management measures to address these challenges. The meeting concluded with Dr. Pan inviting the Finance Minister to visit Beijing in the near future.
