Finance Minister Engages with AIIB Delegation for Strategic Infrastructure Discussions.

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met with a delegation from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), led by Mr. Konstantin Limitovskiy, Vice President Client Region and Project Finance Global at the AIIB, at the Finance Division today. The meeting centered on AIIB’s portfolio investment in Pakistan, covering projects in hydro power generation, road and transport sector development, urban infrastructure, climate resilience, and responses to pandemics, conflicts, and climate-induced flood disasters.

According to Press Information Department, discussions included the status of ongoing projects and the potential redirection of the Bank’s financing from power generation to enhancing the transmission and distribution system, given the need to manage surplus capacity. The AIIB delegation highlighted Pakistan as a significant partner and affirmed the Bank’s commitment to aiding Pakistan’s development objectives and addressing climate-related challenges through policy and budgetary support.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb expressed appreciation for AIIB’s assistance, particularly in the context of natural disasters and long-term climate change impacts. He noted satisfaction with the progress of AIIB projects within Pakistan and called for improved disbursement efforts for ongoing projects. The Minister also referred to his recent meeting with AIIB President Mr. Jin Liqun in Washington DC, where they discussed Pakistan’s interest in diversifying its financing sources, including the potential issuance of a Panda bond with AIIB’s support through a partial guarantee to signal market confidence.
