Finance Minister Discusses Reform Agenda with UK’s FCDO Delegation


Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue engaged in discussions with representatives from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), focusing on Pakistan’s economic reforms and future partnerships. The meeting, chaired by the Federal Minister, included Ms. Melinda Bohannaon, Director General for Humanitarian and Development at FCDO, along with Ms. Jo Moir, Development Director, and Mr. Louie Dane, Senior Economist. Senior officers from the Finance Division were also present.



According to Press Information Department, the Federal Minister outlined several key initiatives under the government’s stabilization and structural reforms program, such as the privatization agenda, rightsizing of the federal government, and reforms in pension and state-owned enterprises. He noted a significant 25.6% increase in quarter 1 tax revenues year over year for FY 25. Ms. Bohannaon expressed appreciation for the government’s comprehensive reform efforts and pledged FCDO’s full support.



The meeting also covered the forthcoming ten-year Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank, with Pakistan set to be the first participant. The Minister highlighted how the framework aims to tackle critical challenges like population growth, child stunting, and climate change, reflecting the government’s dedication to sustainable development. Both parties underscored the necessity of a responsive and proactive approach to reforms, with a focus on achieving long-term economic and social development.
