Finance Minister Discusses Investment Prospects with Finnish Financier in Islamabad

Islamabad: In a significant meeting today, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, convened with Mr. Antti Partanen, a representative of FinnFund, to discuss expanding Finnish investments in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Finance announcement issued on 26 August 2024, the discussions centered around Pakistan’s improved macroeconomic stability and the government’s comprehensive reforms across various sectors, including the digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), energy sector restructuring, and the privatization of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). The Minister emphasized efforts to pivot Pakistan towards an export-led economic model and to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI).

Mr. Partanen highlighted FinnFund’s current engagements and expressed interest in exploring further investments, particularly in digital infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, and forestry, noting Pakistan’s demographic advantage with its young population.

The meeting concluded with affirmations of strengthening investment ties, underscoring the government’s commitment to creating a favorable investment environment for foreign stakeholders.
