Washington DC: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has called on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to prioritize the enhancement of climate resilience financing and to extend its debt relief and concessional financing programs to assist vulnerable countries. This appeal was made during a significant meeting with the Managing Director of the IMF, attended by finance ministers, central bank governors, and leaders of regional financial institutions from the MENAP region.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed the importance of integrating social protection measures into the IMF’s lending strategies during the discussions. He acknowledged recent steps to address emerging economic challenges, including climate-related risks, growing domestic public debt, and the complexities of debt restructuring within the Low-Income Countries Debt Sustainability Framework review.
