Finance Minister Aurangzeb Urges Global Cooperation Amid Economic Strains

Washington: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb called for enhanced global cooperation to address emerging economic challenges during a G-24 Meeting in Washington. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to resilience, inclusion, and shared prosperity while addressing the ongoing global economic strains.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister highlighted that the global economy is under significant pressure due to successive shocks, with recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East exacerbating the situation. Aurangzeb underscored the necessity of de-escalation in these regions, emphasizing the protection of critical maritime and energy corridors and a sustained pursuit of peace to maintain global economic stability.

Further, he expressed Pakistan’s backing for the ongoing review of IMF program design and conditionality. He stressed the importance of preserving strong macroeconomic stability, particularly focusing on an early and substantive review of IMF surcharges, which is crucial for developing economies.

The Minister also called for deepened collaboration with the World Bank, focusing on job-intensive investments, infrastructure development, and innovative financing solutions to foster sustainable growth.
