Finance Minister Aurangzeb Hails Economic Progress Amid National Assembly Approvals

Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has voiced satisfaction over the country’s economic trajectory, citing improvements in foreign exchange reserves, a reduction in inflation, and a lower policy rate as positive indicators.

During a National Assembly session, Aurangzeb addressed Cut Motions on Demands for Grants related to the Finance and Revenue Division for the upcoming fiscal year. He highlighted independent surveys that recognize increased business activity and investor confidence. The Minister noted a projected federal expenditure increase of less than two percent for the next fiscal year, contrasting with previous years’ increases of ten to thirteen percent. He also discussed ongoing reforms within the Federal Board of Revenue aimed at enhancing transparency.

The National Assembly approved fourteen Demands for Grants concerning finance and revenue for the next fiscal year, dismissing opposition Cut Motions. The session commenced with prayers for Shaheed Major Syed Moiz Abbas and Shaheed Lance Naik Jibran Ullah, who were martyred in South Waziristan.

In addition, the House approved five Demands for Grants for the Human Rights Division. Minister for Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar announced the National Commission for Human Rights Pakistan’s attainment of “A” status from human rights organizations, a first for the nation. Tarar emphasized legislative advancements for the protection of women, children, and minority rights.

Further, six Demands for Grants for the Interior Division were sanctioned, with opposition Cut Motions being rejected. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry spoke on enhanced security measures, highlighting the Pakistani passport’s international features and AI-enabled connectivity at airports and seaports to prevent unauthorized departures.
