Bangkok: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met with representatives of Moody’s during the World Bank Group-IMF Annual Meetings 2026, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to structural reforms and sustainable economic growth. The discussions, held on the sidelines of the meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, also touched on Pakistan’s recent rating upgrade and efforts to improve fiscal and external indicators.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Finance Minister outlined strategies for replacing costly, short-term debt with longer-maturity financing, while maintaining the current level of external debt. The delegation from Moody’s noted the rise in foreign exchange reserves, the containment of the current account deficit, and the reduction of forward liabilities of the State Bank.
Aurangzeb emphasized the country’s focus on achieving sustainable, export-led growth beyond the current IMF programme. In addition, he sought Moody’s insights on achieving a stronger credit rating by balancing political risk with economic performance in its assessments.
