Final Phase for Senate Election Appeals Nears Close

Islamabad, The window for filing appeals against the decisions on nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections will conclude tomorrow. This marks a crucial juncture in the pre-election phase, setting the stage for the resolution of appeals and finalizing the list of candidates.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, tribunals are set to address and resolve all lodged appeals by Monday. Following this, the updated roster of Senate candidates is scheduled for release on Tuesday, providing a clear view of the contenders. Candidates then have until Wednesday to withdraw their nomination papers if they choose.

This electoral process is vital for determining representation in Pakistan’s Senate. The federal capital’s National Assembly members are tasked with electing senators for one general seat and one technocratic seat, which includes religious scholars. Similarly, members from each of the four provincial assemblies will elect senators for seven general seats, two seats designated for women, and two technocratic seats that also encompass Ulema, within their respective provinces.

Additionally, one senator representing non-Muslims will be elected from both Punjab and Sindh provinces, ensuring diverse representation. The scheduled polling on the second of the following month is eagerly anticipated, as it will shape the composition of the Senate for the coming term.
