Federal Shariat Court takes suo moto on violation of child marriage act in Khuzdar

Islamabad, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): The Federal Shariat Court, in exercise of powers conferred under Article 203-D and 203-DD of the Constitution has taken Suo Moto action on FIR NO. 90/22 registered under Section 6-1 of the Child Marriages Restraint Act 1929 and Sections 420,342 and 34 of PPC, lodged in Police Station Khuzdar where in a contract between Muhammad and Mahr Ali residents of District Khuzdar, Balochistan was concluded and as a result marriage of a minor girl and minor boy in consideration of another of minor girl and minor boy was taken place.

Muhammad the father of one girl named Mah Bibi of the age of five year lodged this FIR against Mahar Ali. The Hon’ble Chief Justice has shown his grave concern about the tragic incident. Therefore, the Court in exercise of Suo Moto power conferred the Constitution took action to examine the custom and forced child marriage of minors in the light of Injunctions of Islam.
