Islamabad, In light of the approaching World AIDS Day on 1st December, Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan held a meeting to discuss strategies and emphasize the importance of preventing HIV outbreaks. The minister highlighted the significance of promoting awareness and medical interventions to prevent transmission risks, referencing past outbreaks in Pakistan to underscore the urgency of proactive measures.
According to a news release by Press Information Department (PID), the meeting convened various notable health representatives, including Dr. Baseer Khan Achakzai, along with members from the Common Management Unit, APLHIV, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, and WHO. During the discussion, Dr. Nadeem Jan pointed out that HIV outbreaks often arise from unsafe practices like unguarded sexual activity, the use of contaminated needles, or unsafe injections. He expressed concern, reflecting on the 2019 HIV outbreak in Larkana and Ratodero (Sindh), emphasizing the government’s commitment to preventing similar future occurrences.
Further, Dr. Jan spoke about the state’s dedication to eradicating AIDS. By prioritizing updated scientific knowledge, the government aims to guarantee that individuals across age groups, genders, and different populations can readily access crucial HIV prevention and treatment services.
World AIDS Day, the minister stressed, serves as a significant moment to rally support and solidarity for those living with HIV. This support encompasses not only disseminating information on resources but also promoting support groups and championing the rights and welfare of those affected by HIV. Dr. Jan assured the attendees that the Ministry of NHSR and C would commemorate the upcoming World AIDS Day with unwavering enthusiasm.
