Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain Celebrates Export Milestone at Toyota Indus Motor


Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, marked a significant achievement in Pakistan’s automotive industry during a visit to the Toyota Indus Motor Company Ltd (IMC) in Port Qasim Industrial Estate, Karachi. The event celebrated the first export of vehicles under the “Make in Pakistan” initiative, highlighting the company’s success in localizing operations and contributing to national development.



According to Press Information Department, during his visit on July 31, 2024, Minister Hussain was joined by prominent figures including Mr. Saif Anjum, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production, and Mr. Khuda Buksh, CEO of the Engineering Development Board. They were received by Mr. Kazunari Iguchi, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Asia, and Mr. Asghar Ali Jamali, CEO of IMC, along with other senior officials.



The Minister applauded IMC Toyota for localizing 64% of their operations, aligning with the government’s vision of innovation and self-reliance. He underscored Toyota’s contribution to the economy with a substantial investment of 700 million USD and an annual production of 76,000 units, which adds 258 billion PKR to the national exchequer. Hussain also praised Toyota’s commitment to environmental sustainability through the production of hybrid vehicles and initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions.



The leadership of IMC, particularly CEO Asghar Ali Jamali, was lauded for their role in steering the company towards these achievements. The Minister’s visit included the inauguration of the vehicle export unit and a tree-planting ceremony, symbolizing growth and sustainability.



Mr. Kazunari Iguchi emphasized the strength of the partnership between Toyota Motor Asia and IMC, crediting the skill improvement and training of Pakistani human resources as key to their success. Mr. Jamali expressed gratitude for the government’s support, which has been crucial in reaching these milestones and in fostering sustainable growth in Pakistan’s auto industry.
