Federal Minister Leads National eCommerce Strategy Revision in Islamabad


Islamabad, Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan chaired the 9th meeting of the National eCommerce Council (NeCC) on Tuesday, focusing on a strategic overhaul to boost Pakistan’s digital commerce sector. During the session, Khan called for the development of a new, cross-sectoral eCommerce policy and set the stage for creating working groups to draft a five-year roadmap for digital trade enhancement.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting convened stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to debate the advancement and hurdles of eCommerce in Pakistan. Key initiatives discussed included the upcoming Export Readiness Program designed to aid small businesses in expanding into international markets. The council reviewed significant strides made since the inception of the National eCommerce Policy in 2019, such as enhancements in registration processes, export limits for freelancers, and the introduction of new frameworks to support online business.



The assembly highlighted several new proposals aimed at fostering the sector’s growth, including the establishment of a robust digital payments infrastructure and the potential expansion of AI tools for online businesses. Furthermore, the State Bank of Pakistan and various trade organizations presented updates on current projects and future plans, which underscored the council’s commitment to refining the digital landscape for commerce in Pakistan.
