Federal Minister Launches Pakistan’s First High-Tech Beeswax Manufacturing Unit


Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, inaugurated Pakistan’s first high-tech automatic Beeswax Foundation Sheet Manufacturing Unit at the National Agricultural Research Centre in Islamabad. The facility aims to modernize the beekeeping sector, enhance local production, and boost honey exports.



According to Press Information Department, the new facility, situated at the Honeybee Research Institute, is expected to provide beekeepers with access to advanced technology. This development is seen as a pivotal step in improving the quality and production of honey in Pakistan. During the inaugural ceremony, Federal Minister Hussain highlighted the critical role of honeybees in crop pollination and national food security.



The automated unit is designed to support local beekeepers by providing quality beeswax foundation sheets, thereby aiding in better honey production. Minister Hussain emphasized the need for modern technology and scientific practices to reach beekeepers across the country, particularly small-scale entrepreneurs and the youth.



Minister Hussain noted Pakistan’s potential in producing various high-quality honey varieties and stressed the importance of quality assurance, certification, and effective marketing in international markets. Expanding access to high-value markets, such as those in Europe, Japan, and North America, remains a key objective for increasing honey exports and enhancing the income of those involved in the sector.



He encouraged youth to explore beekeeping as a modern agribusiness opportunity, highlighting the role of technology, research, and training in creating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. Minister Hussain also acknowledged the support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency in strengthening Pakistan’s agriculture and rural development sectors through cooperation with Türkiye.



The Federal Minister expressed confidence that the new manufacturing unit would play a significant role in modernizing the beekeeping industry, strengthening domestic capabilities, and enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistani honey in global markets.
