Sahiwal: Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, participated in a ceremony at Government Graduate College Sahiwal to mark Teachers’ Honor Day. The Minister underscored the crucial role of educators in nation-building and reiterated the government’s commitment to education reform. “Teachers are the guiding lights who illuminate the path of knowledge for our future generations,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of both academic and moral education, noting that teachers not only share knowledge but also instill ethical values, positioning them as the foundation of a progressive society. The Minister highlighted ongoing government initiatives aimed at advancing the education sector, such as scholarships and laptops for students to improve educational quality and digital access.
The Minister commended Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal’s efforts in Sahiwal, particularly in education. He shared that the *Benazir Taleemi Wazaif Program* has provided scholarships to over 10.3 million children, amounting to PKR 77 billion as of February 2025. He also pointed out the success of Child Labour Schools, which offer free education to children previously engaged in labor, and vocational training centers that equip youth with employable skills.
Reflecting on his own educational journey, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, an alumnus of Government College Sahiwal, encouraged teachers to continue offering both worldly and spiritual guidance. Member Provincial Assembly, Malik Qasim Nadeem, also spoke at the event, referring to teachers as “spiritual parents” who have a vital impact on student character development.
The college principal, Professor Mumtaz Ahmed Wattoo, presented the institution’s achievements. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of appreciation certificates to outstanding teachers by the Federal Minister and MPA Malik Qasim Nadeem. In closing, the Minister praised the dedication of teachers and affirmed the government’s commitment to fostering an equitable society in collaboration with the teaching community.
