Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the critical role of Pakistan’s youth in the country’s future, asserting that investment in human capital is paramount for national progress. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the URAAN Pakistan “Mitti Ki Pukar” Overseas Pakistanis Summer Scholars Programme 2026, Iqbal highlighted the importance of education, skills, and policy continuity.

According to Press Information Department, the Minister announced that the programme, which received nearly 2,000 applications from 54 countries, selected 45 outstanding overseas Pakistani scholars from 150 top global universities. The chosen scholars will participate in a two-month, hands-on experience within Pakistan’s public sector, offering them insights into policymaking and opportunities to contribute to the national development agenda.

Iqbal noted the inclusion of three international scholars in this year’s cohort, underscoring the programme’s growing global appeal. He encouraged the scholars to engage with senior leadership and contribute innovative ideas, particularly in the implementation of the URAAN Pakistan’s 5Es Framework, which focuses on Exports, E-Pakistan, Energy, Environment, and Equity & Empowerment.

The Minister reiterated that the current government has prioritized youth empowerment through education and skills development, despite challenging economic conditions. He emphasized the need for structural reforms and political stability to harness the potential of Pakistan’s young population, which constitutes sixty percent of the nation’s demographics.

Iqbal concluded by urging the scholars to leverage their experiences during the programme to contribute to Pakistan’s progress and prosperity in their professional lives, while also announcing recommendations to modernize university curricula to align with global industry needs.
