Federal Minister for Planning and Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal paid tribute to the National Flood Response and Coordination Center 

Islamabad, December 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Planning and Development and Special Measures Ahsan Iqbal said that the whole country has come together to deal with the disaster of floods. All institutions, civil society and the government have also worked together. It is necessary, the government and the nation together will take Pakistan forward with this spirit. NFRCC’s role in dealing with floods has been exemplary.

Addressing the closing session of the National Flood Response and Coordination Center here on Monday, the federal minister said that more than 30 billion dollars were lost due to floods. In the rescue and relief work, all the forces including the Pakistan Army and the federal and provincial governments did an exemplary job.

After the flood, the role of NFRCC was key in continuing the rescue, relief and rehabilitation activities without interruption, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif and On behalf of the entire nation, I pay tribute to the entire team of NFRCC.

He said that the government, keeping in mind the future challenges of climate change, has come up with a four-pronged strategy for recovery and reconstruction (R4 (Resilient, Recovery, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction) which will be presented to the international community in the Donors Conference.

In the winter season, flood victims need our help more. Sahib Sarwat is appealing to individuals and organizations to continue their active role. National Coordinator NFRCC Lieutenant General Zafar Iqbal in his address to the session appreciated the continuous efforts of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Deputy Chairman NFRCC Ahsan Iqbal in dealing with the flood situation.

He said that under the banner of NFRCC, all the national institutions, federal and provincial governments and international aid organizations have fully cooperated for the rehabilitation and reconstruction after the flood, for which he is grateful to them. Lieutenant General Zafar Iqbal also paid tribute to the entire team of NFRCC.

Earlier, the session was informed in the briefing that 98% of the damaged communication system has been restored after the flood, the joint survey is in the final stages of completion. After the flood, the health coordination emergency has been a great success in preventing the spread of epidemics in the affected areas. A dashboard containing a national database has been established to deal with natural disasters in the future.

The coordination and supervision of long-term projects is being transferred to the National Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee (NRCC), which will be jointly headed by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal and Chairman NDMA Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik.
