Islamabad, July 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam attended and addressed the UN Food System Pre-Summit in Islamabad via Video Call. During his address he said that, “Pakistan is a lower-middle-income country with the fifth largest population in the world. Unfortunately, Pakistan has one of the world’s highest rates of malnutrition among women and children. This is due to issues such as lack of dietary diversity and unaffordability of food”.
He further stated that, “The Government of Pakistan is committed for the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to achieve zero hunger through promoting sustainable agriculture as a top priority”. Syed Fakhar Imam said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his team are committed towards achieving zero hunger for the Pakistani population and are determined to join ‘The Coalition of Action for Achieving Zero Hunger’ under this UN Food System Summit initiative. He stated that the food security and nutrition status of our people is central to the Government of Pakistan to ensure a healthy and economically vibrant population. It will help to ensure economic growth and development.
