Islamabad, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhar Imam addressed the conference on promoting climate smart agriculture and food security by welt hunger hilfe and Thardeep Rural Development Programme in NARC today. The minister said that Pakistan is considered one of most vulnerable country to climate change in the world. Pakistan has faced two mega floods in 2010 and 2014 due to climate change. Climate and weather change has had extraordinary effect on all crops of Pakistan which has affected the nutritional value of crops and their yields. Pakistan has fair amount of malnutrition but children who face infirmities are most alarming. To tackle that, the Prime Minister has introduced the billion trees project because Pakistan does not even have 4-4.5 Pc of forest cover. Last year, due to heavy rainfall in Sindh, 50 Pc of the cotton crop in Sindh was lost. Climate change is a big concern that needs attention.
