Islamabad, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):Federal Secretary Akbar Durrani (TI)/PAS, DG ANF Major General Ghulam Shabbir Narejo and Country head of UNODC Jeremy Milsom attended the meeting. Federal Minister Ijaz Ahmad Shah appreciated the efforts and cooperation of UNODC in fighting drugs in Pakistan. He said that it was a great success to cover most of the tasks under the previous Country Programme.
He further said that there is always room for improvement but all stakeholders are doing their best to eradicate this menace from society under given resources. Federal Minister was of the view that expansion of the next programme would only be productive if the budget is increased accordingly. Elaborating his point further, he said that adding tasks to given resource might have negative impact on productivity rate.
The country head of UNODC welcomed the input and said that UNODC majorly depends on funds for functioning and budget expansion can be considered. He said more work needs to be done to improve funding. He said that Pakistan is an important country to us and we hope that we will succeed in our efforts to fight drugs. The next programme of UNODC will officially commence from January 2022. The meeting was attended by UNODC team, representatives from Interior Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Defence, FIA, NAB, ANF and officials of Ministry of Narcotics Control.
