Federal Minister for Human Rights Lauds Meta for Enhancing Child Protection and Privacy

Islamabad: Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, the Federal Minister for Law, Justice, and Human Rights, met with Simon Milner, Meta’s Vice President of Public Policy for APAC, to discuss and commend the company’s efforts in supporting child protection and privacy initiatives in Pakistan. The meeting highlighted Meta’s significant contributions to creating safer digital environments and promoting human rights through technological solutions.

According to Press Information Department, the minister praised Meta for its development and dissemination of a Public Service Video (PSM) that educates the public on digital rights and responsibilities, aligning with the Ministry’s broader human rights agenda. This video is part of a collaborative effort with the Ministry to raise awareness about privacy rights and child protection in digital spaces.

A focal point of the discussion was the TakeItDown platform, created by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This tool enables individuals to anonymously report and seek the removal of explicit images or videos of minors from the internet, effectively addressing issues of online harassment and exploitation.

Senator Tarar emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration with Meta to address critical challenges in online child protection and privacy preservation. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Meta and other stakeholders to ensure that Pakistan remains at the forefront of human rights advocacy and protection.

The Ministry of Human Rights is dedicated to expanding these partnerships to further enhance the awareness, protection, and promotion of human rights across the nation.
