Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan virtually attends the 6th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank 

Islamabad, October 27, 2021 (PPI-OT):Mr. Omar Ayub Khan, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, virtually attended the 6th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The Minister acknowledged AIIB’s support for Pakistan and felicitated the UAE government for hosting the event.

The Minister mentioned the threat posed by climate change to the region and highlighted the government’s prioritized actions for tackling climate change, while specifically mentioning the launch of the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme and incorporation of climate adaptation and mitigation strategies in the revised National Determined Contributions.

In order to meet the climate financing needs, the Minister emphasized that the Bank may concentrate more on supporting the regional countries efforts for climate adaption through resilient infrastructure, addressing the needs for Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), low emission-transportation, connectivity and inclusive growth.

The Minister expressed Pakistan’s support to AIIB’s vision and targets for climate financing, enunciated in the corporate strategy and expressed his hope for active engagement with AIIB, for realizing mutual goals for green infrastructure in the regional context vis-à-vis Pakistan.
