Federal Minister for Communications Maulana Asad Mehmood and Director General Pakistan Post Rana Hasan Akhtar meets Director General Universal Postal Union Switzerland

Islamabad, October 26, 2022 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Communications Maulana Asad Mehmood and Director General Pakistan Post Rana Hasan Akhtar meets Director General Universal Postal Union (UPU) Mr. Masahiko Metoki Bern Switzerland, October 25, 2022. Federal Minister for Communications Mr. Asad Mehmood and Director General Pakistan Post Rana Hasan Akhtar met the Director General Universal Postal Union (UPU) Mr. Masahiko Metoki today at the UPU Head Quarters in Bern, Switzerland. H.E. Mr. Amir Shaukat, Ambassador of Pakistan to Switzerland accompanied the delegation.

The delegation of Pakistan led by Federal Minister for Communications Mr. Asad Mehmood is visiting the UPU HQs on special invitation of DG Universal Postal Union. An exclusive meeting was held between Mr. Masahiko Metoki, DG UPU and the delegation of Pakistan today during the annual meeting of Council of Administration (CA) of UPU.

DG UPU appreciated Pakistan’s dynamic role in UPU activities throughout history. He especially emphasized on Pakistan’s positive role as vice chair of the CA during 2016-2021. DG UPU showed his concern about the recent devastations made by floods in Pakistan. As UPU is part of the UN’s network for coordinating aid, Mr. Mashahiko Metoki has intimated that Pakistan will be included as a priority country in the Regional Development Program (RDP) and Multiple Infrastructure Program (MIP).

The UPU will extensively support Pakistan Post for rehabilitation of postal infrastructure in flood effected areas all across Pakistan through its Quality-of-Service and Regional Development Fund. The Federal Minister showed his great interest in adopting UPU product IFS, especially in its domestic financial services modules, to which the DG UPU has pledged to extend support to Pakistan Post by providing free trainings to its officers at Berne with key focus on IFS modules along with the complimentary consultancy support regarding IFS implementation in the field units. Pakistan delegation showed their resolve to contribute in making Pakistan Post a modern and innovation in line with the initiative of UPU.
